This was actually my 3rd visit to Sushi Kanpai, but it's the 1st time I've ordered to-go. The food is always good, and always fresh.  The staff are friendly and perfectly attentive.  They have a nice variety of lunch specials and the lunch menu is available for a good amount of time (IE: if you need to take a later lunch...).   I'm happy that Sushi Kanpai is so close to my work and that I'm finally aware of it!

Having confidence that you are actually getting what you are ordering at a restaurant is important. At sushi restaurants it is especially important. In other words, integrity.

Had a bad experience ordering from here via Uber Eats. Ordered the spicy crunch roll. Per the menu, "snow crab meat, cucumber, spicy tuna, crab meat, and crunchy tempura flakes." What I actually got in the roll was fake crab (krab) even though crab meat is listed not once, but twice on the menu. In addition to this surprise, the roll had an off fishy smell and flavor. Never again! Stay away!

I was surprised by the high average for this place.... and perhaps we just had a uniquely bad experience. Also, as a caveat, our food was delivered via Uber Eats, and I don't blame the restaurant for how bad the nigiri looked when it arrived. It doesn't really bother me as long as it tastes good anyway.

We ordered the shrimp tempura, a California roll, a Black Dragon Roll, saba nigiri, and ikura nigiri. Where do I start. The tempura was probably the only okay thing that we ordered. It wasn't bad, it wasn't good, it just was. The saba on the saba nigiri was also commendable. It had a good vinegar marinade and the fish by itself was delicious. Further, I appreciated that they packaged things separate instead of trying to stuff all the rolls and nigiri into one container. Lastly, they were very generous with the ginger which is always a bonus.

Unfortunately, there are no further positives to add. The worse part about the sushi we ordered was the rice used to make the ikura and saba nigiri. It was perhaps the worst sushi rice I've eaten. For one, it was not truly sushi rice as it had absolutely no discernible rice vinegar flavor. Secondly, it was under-cooked and on the tougher side. The last part took me a while to figure out but I finally did.... THEY CLEARLY DID NOT RINSE THE RICE TO REMOVE THE STARCH BEFORE THEY COOKED IT. I could not believe that. It's been so long since I've tasted that starchy flavor on rice but someone at that restaurant tonight was either lazy or lacked basic training.

Aside from the above, the Black Dragon Roll was the blandest roll that I've tasted in some time. Again, this may have been due to the use of starchy rice that overpowers everything else, but yah, even the unagi lacked the typical teriyaki flavor.

I hate to say but this was the worst of the 7 or 8 Seattle sushi restaurants we've eaten at in the past 5 weeks. Even Tenei, which served cooked saba on their nigiri gets a higher rating than this place.

I have been back make multiple times now focusing in on Lunch menu and their specials.

Pleased to report their Bento Boxes are spot on and offer a good variety.  I enjoy the Shrimp Tempura Bento Box.  4 pieces of Shrimp Tempura,  4-5 pieces of Veggie Tempura, 2 pieces of California Roll, 6-8 pieces of Edamame, 1 scoop of Rice, and 1 bowl of Miso Soup to start.

Nice piping hot Miso Soup is the perfect start.  Edamame and California Rolls are good.  Shrimp Tempura is spot on perfect.  Veggie Tempura is good but only had string beans and carrots.  They could use more variety like green peppers, onions, etc.

Overall a good value for all the food you get.  It gets crowded at peak lunch times so come in a bit early after they open at 11 am or after 1 pm.  Street and Lot Parking close by.

Happy hour FTW! Stopped in on a whim after craving sushi, so glad we found this gem. Luckily we made it just in time for their happy hour. The restaurant is smaller but romantically dim with Japanese touches throughout, they have a beautiful oversized kimono hanging above a table right when you enter. This would be a great date spot!

Going back to the menu, I was ecstatic to see that you could order ANY beverage (even non alcoholic, I ordered green tea) and receive the HH prices. We couldn't pass it up and almost ordered everything off the menu! Our polite server was very attentive to our needs and checked on us regularly. The food was so delectable, I loved how everything was so fresh yet satisfied every craving. We tried the steamed gyoza, Katsu, croquettes, variety of sushi rolls (my favorite was the Wasabi Hamachi!), shrimp tempura and more.

Sushi lover? Try this place out!
